Gobi Desert Tours

The Gobi Desert
The Gobi Desert is a large, cold desert and grassland region in southern Mongolia and Inner Mongolia (China). It is the sixth-largest desert in the world. The name of the desert comes from the Mongolian word "Gov", meaning "dryland", used to refer to all of the waterless regions in the Mongolian Plateau. Much of the Gobi is not sandy, instead resembling exposed bare rock.

The Gobi is a cold desert, with frost and occasionally snow occurring on its dunes. It is quite far north, and is also located on a plateau roughly 910–1,520 m above sea level, which contributes to its low temperatures. An average of about 20 cm of rain falls annually in the Gobi. Additional moisture reaches parts of the Gobi in winter as snow is blown by the wind from the Siberian Steppes. These winds may cause the Gobi to reach −40 °C in winter to 45 °C in summer.

Naagii worked for Gobi Tours for 5 years, and still freelances for them. She is considered a Gobi expert, with her husband having a high military rank in the region - she has maintained a home in the region for almost 30 years. Naagii is therefore considered the "Gobi Queen" where tourism is concerned!!

Naagii and her team are very experienced in off-road driving, have excellent, comfortable, safe vehicles for clients, and know all features of logistics - planning for food and water, fuel, accommodation etc., to ensure safety is the number one priority for tourists.

Bactrian 2-humped Camel trekking, staying with desert nomads in traditional gers, all add to the Gobi experience. Sunset and sunrises are a photographers delight, with amazing colours - put the cameras away, and gaze at the stars at nnight with desert clarity!!

After a complete nest of dinosaur eggs was found in the Flaming Cliffs, changing the world's knowledge of dinosaurs, these cliffs are also one of the main attractions in the Gobi desert.

Khongor sand dunes are some of the tallest sand dunes in Mongolia, extending 100 km, with heights reaching 300 metres above the Gobi steppes. The sand dunes are incredibly photogenic, especially if viewed from the top - quite an experience in itself!!.

Visit Tsagaan Suvarga, a spectacular natural formation of colorful, huge mud cliffs that look like man-made stupas - an amazing photogenic experience.

A visit and hike in the beautiful greenery of Gurban Saikhan mountains with many picturesque valleys takes you to Yoliin Am, the Eagle Valley. Golden Eagles nest in the rocks and soar overhead.

Naagii will work with you to personalise your tour and help with you with every aspect of your enjoyable desert experience.
